Condenser Clamp (Laboratory Equipment)

Basic information:

A condenser clamp (or three-pronged clamp) is used to secure a condenser or glassware to a retort stand for stability.

Benefits and uses:

• Handle distillation equipment: condenser tube
  
• For convenient use during chemical titration.

Storage Instructions:

• Wash thoroughly after each use.
  
• Keep away from acid fumes to prevent rust or deterioration.

• Caution: Most condensers are double-walled glass tubes (with an outer glass shell for water to flow through), which are extremely fragile. When tightening the screw to clamp, turn it only until it's snug and secure. Do not overtighten, as the outer glass shell will shatter immediately.
• Weight distribution: If the condenser is exceptionally long, at least two condenser clamps should be used, one at each end, to help support the weight and prevent the pivot point from causing the glassware to break in the middle.
• Heat resistance: If glassware clamps need to be used near high heat sources, choose clamps with fiberglass or cork ends instead of rubber sleeves to prevent the rubber from melting and sticking to the glassware.
